A few months ago I wrote a blog about kicking some kid off an iMac at the Apple store in Cambridge – (Fulfilling a dream) Today I’ll be following that up somewhat.

Last Saturday was an interesting day. Kat and I awoke at a reasonable hour, having planned to go into Southampton to do a little shopping for the day. She needed some new jeans and a pair of shoes for her mums wedding that match her bridesmaid dress. I needed some new work trousers and a shirt for Kat’s mums wedding. We then proceeded to waste away the morning and ended up getting to town much later than planned.

A solid 6 hours of shopping later we were headed back for the car. Kat had managed to get herself some jeans and wedding shoes. She’d also gotten a cook book, a new handbag and Bolt on Blu-Ray (with the Rhino soft toy). So better than expected, she was very pleased (mainly because of Rhino). I’d managed to fail in my quest to get work trousers and decided to wear an old shirt to the wedding. But I did get a Japanese dictionary and The Wrestler on Blu-Ray, which is brilliant by the way.

We ended up going into the Apple shop again on the way to the car. We spoke to one of their specialists, Tom. Tom wore a funky hat and had a penchant for the word “brilliant”. He also had issues with just about everything he tried to put through the computer, but was very friendly and chatty throughout. About an hour later we walked out of the shop with a brand new iMac and iPod Touch.

I know that sounds like an expensive impulse purchase, but it is something that we have wanted for a while now. Kat’s a student and gets student discount, but she’s graduating soon so would have lost that discount had we waited. Plus, by buying the iMac and iPod together we were eligible for a £145 rebate, essentially covering the cost of the iPod.

Things were looking up, we were loving our new toys. But then I went and lost the box for the iPod, not the iPod itself though, fortunately, possibly hampering our chances of getting the £145 rebate. To claim the rebate you send a form together with a copy of your receipt, to show you bought both at the same time. But you also need to send the barcodes off the boxes of both items, so losing the iPod box could still prove to be a monumental fail on my part. The forms are all going off to Apple today so, hopefully, they’ll be able to give Kat the money back still!

I have to say, I’ve loved the iMac and iPod since I started using them. I’ve not had a chance to get the most out of the iMac yet and I’m really looking forward to doing some of my graphic stuff on it.  I’m also very happy that I’ve been able to copy over my save game for Football Manager 2009 so I can continue to lead Real Salt Lake to greatness!

And, if you’re not so fond of all this Apple talk, maybe you’d care to buy my old PC? http://trunc.it/16l34
